The first fast of Ramadan in Pakistan is expected to fall on March 2, as there is a high chance of moon sighting on March 1.
Moon Sighting and Prediction
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the new moon is expected to be born on February 28 at 5:45 PM. This increases the chances of the crescent being sighted on March 1, Saturday.
Traditionally, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold its moon sighting session on Sha’ban 29, while zonal committees across the country will assess reports before making an official announcement.
Fasting and Spiritual Significance of Ramadan
Ramadan is observed with great religious fervor across the world, with Muslims fasting from dawn to sunset.
Depending on geographic location, fasting hours will vary between 12 to 17 hours globally.
Ramadan Traditions in Pakistan
Like many other countries, charity and public food drives increase significantly during Ramadan in Pakistan. People set up roadside stalls for free Iftar, ensuring that those traveling home in the evening can break their fast with ease.
