Chennai, India: In a significant move against cyberbullying and the spread of misinformation online, Anupama Parameswaran, a popular actress in Telugu, Malayalam, and Tamil cinema, has initiated legal proceedings against a young woman. The action follows the dissemination of her fake and edited images on social media, coupled with baseless and defamatory allegations.
On Sunday, the 29-year-old actress announced her decision via her Instagram account, noting that she chose not to reveal the identity of the girl due to her young age.
Anupama revealed that she recently became aware of an Instagram profile that was consistently sharing highly inappropriate and false content about her and her family. The account also tagged her friends and fellow actors, intensifying the harassment. The posts included computer-animated images and fabricated claims, causing the actress significant distress.
Further investigation, according to the actress, revealed that the same individual was operating multiple fake accounts to propagate her false narratives. Subsequently, a formal complaint was lodged with the Cyber Crime Police in Kerala. The police took prompt action, successfully identifying the person behind these activities as a 20-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu. This legal pursuit sends a strong message against unethical and criminal activity on social media platforms.
