A Special Guard of Honour ceremony was conducted at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, honoring Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir following his promotion to the highest military rank.
During the event, which took place at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada within the GHQ premises, Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha in solemn remembrance of the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of Pakistan.
The federal government elevated General Munir to the rank of field marshal in recognition of his exceptional leadership during Pakistan’s recent military engagements with India and the successful execution of “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.”
The Prime Minister’s Office stated: “COAS Gen Munir led the Pakistan Army with exemplary courage and determination and comprehensively coordinated the war strategy and efforts of the armed forces.”
Dedicating this profound honor to the entire Pakistani nation, Field Marshal Munir acknowledged the unwavering service and sacrifices of the armed forces, law enforcement personnel, and civilian veterans.
He particularly highlighted the invaluable contributions of the martyrs, describing them as defenders who stood “like a wall of steel” against India’s unprovoked, cowardly, and unlawful aggression.
“This honor is a tribute to the entire Pakistani nation and the valiant men and women of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, particularly the martyrs who stood like a wall of steel against Indian unprovoked, cowardly and unlawful aggression against Pakistan,” the Field Marshal affirmed.

In response to India’s unprovoked attacks on multiple Pakistani cities during the night of May 6 and 7, the Pakistani armed forces launched a large-scale retaliatory military action, codenamed “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” targeting several Indian military objectives across various regions on May 10.
Pakistan successfully downed six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, and dozens of drones. After at least 87 hours, the conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations concluded on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.
A total of 53 individuals, comprising 13 armed forces personnel and 40 civilians, were martyred as a result of Indian strikes during the recent military confrontation.
The military confrontation between the two countries was triggered by an attack in IIOJK the previous month that resulted in 26 tourist fatalities, with India blaming Pakistan for the attack without offering any conclusive evidence.
