HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Bundle up! Temperatures Wednesday morning dip into the 30s and 40s as an early season cold snap settles into Southeast Texas.
The air is incredibly dry, so it will be difficult for frost to form where temperatures drop into the mid 30s north of Houston, but if you are concerned about your cold-sensitive tropical plants, go ahead and protect them before the coldest temperatures settle in.
Abundant sunshine will warm temperatures to near 70 in the afternoon, and the air will be so dry some might even find it uncomfortable. If your are prone to chapped lips and dry skin you might considering having moisturizer on hand.
How long does the chilly air stick around?
Thursday morning will also bring lows temperatures in the 40s, but the southwest wind will pump the high all the way up to 80. Dress in layers! Temperatures will continue to trend up through the weekend as the sticky Gulf air returns by Sunday.
How does the weekend look?
It looks really nice! Saturday will be just about perfect with ideal humidity. You can expect a morning low near 60 and a high in the mid 80s under a mostly sunny sky. Sunday you’ll feel the sticky air as the Gulf breeze picks up from the south at 15-25 mph. Temperatures will start off in the upper 60s and warm back into the mid 80s under a partly cloudy sky.
What’s happening in the tropics?
No new tropical development is expected in the Atlantic over the next 5 days, but we’re eyeing a developing storm in the Pacific that could bring rain to us early next week. For the very latest check out our daily tropical update.
