The federal cabinet has approved a comprehensive security plan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, deploying the Pakistan Army, civil armed forces, police, and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of participating teams.
Deployment of Military Under Article 245
According to sources, security arrangements will be implemented under Article 245 of the Constitution, which allows the deployment of the Pakistan Army for internal security purposes.
The decision was made following requests from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Punjab, and Sindh governments, emphasizing the need for foolproof security measures.
Presidential-Level Security for International Teams
Teams arriving in Pakistan from February 12 for the much-anticipated tournament will receive presidential-level security. The Interior Ministry has already issued directives to all relevant institutions and provincial home departments to ensure top-tier security protocols.
Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will begin in Pakistan on February 19 and conclude on March 9. The matches will be played in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
India’s Matches to Be Held in UAE
India refused to send its team to Pakistan, due to which its matches will be held in the UAE under a hybrid model. If India qualifies for the semi-final, the match will be held in Dubai. Similarly, if India reaches the final, that match will also take place in Dubai.
Tri-Series and Security Enhancements
Meanwhile, a tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa has commenced, for which anti-drone technology has been deployed for the first time due to security concerns.
Inauguration of the Newly Constructed Gaddafi Stadium
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly constructed Gaddafi Stadium on Friday, where a grand ceremony was held. Renowned singers Arif Lohar, Aima Baig, and Ali Zafar performed at the event.
