PESHAWAR: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified the import tax exemption in Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the FBR’s statement, a comprehensive system has been introduced to prevent the misuse of tax exemption, which will not affect the interests of the business community.
Under the new system, the FBR has given Gilgit-Baltistan a special status, stating that the Sales Tax Act 1990 and the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 will not be applicable in the region. The FBR has also said that the Federal Excise Act 2005 will not be enforced in Gilgit-Baltistan, and a tax exemption will be granted on goods used in the region.
The FBR has set an annual exemption limit of Rs 4 billion on imports in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the government will determine the quota for tax-free goods for traders. The statement further added that the automatic system will collect taxes once the quota is exhausted, and strict action will be taken against any violations.
