The disappearance of a Houston Air Force veteran, John Gamboa, in Mexico City is now under investigation by the FBI and other federal agencies.
According to friends and family, Gamboa was last seen or heard from on February 16, the day he arrived in the capital city.
Alex Bozarjian, an Eyewitness News reporter, reached out to the FBI on behalf of Gamboa’s mother, prompting federal agencies to initiate investigations both in the United States and in Mexico.
Fermina Gamboa, John’s mother, revealed that there was an attempted withdrawal from her son’s account the day after he disappeared and pleaded for his safe return.
For the past 12 days, Fermina Gamboa has been enduring the anguish of her son’s absence, reiterating her desperate plea for his safe return.
Gamboa’s last known movements include arriving in Mexico City on February 16, taking an Uber to his Airbnb, and visiting Montana’s Disco and Bar alone around 11:30 p.m. that night.
A missing person’s flyer from Mexico’s attorney general’s office has been circulated, and multiple federal agencies are actively involved in the investigation following outreach from Eyewitness News and U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher’s office.
Jim Conway, a retired FBI agent, highlighted the collaboration between U.S. and Mexican authorities in investigating such cases and expressed hope for a positive resolution.
Fermina Gamboa described her son as a five-year Air Force veteran who selflessly donated bone marrow to her during her battle with cancer, underscoring his character and sacrifice.
