On Tuesday, Muhammad Umar, the primary suspect, and his son, Ihsan, appeared in court in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old boy. The boy tragically died earlier this month due to alleged torture at a madrassa in Chaliyar, Khwazakhela. The court has granted the police a three-day remand for both accused to facilitate further investigation.
Earlier the same day, authorities sealed an unregistered seminary in Swat following the teenager’s death. According to District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Umar, the 14-year-old student was allegedly tortured by a teacher.
Reports indicate the boy was beaten by teachers at the madrassa, located in Swat’s Khwazakhela area. Fellow students and staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Previous reports suggested that physical abuse was a recurring problem at the seminary, with several students reportedly enduring violence in recent months.
DPO Umar confirmed that the teenager’s death resulted from the teacher’s alleged assault. He also stated that two of the four suspects named in the First Information Report (FIR) have been arrested, and an additional nine individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the case. The DPO reiterated that the seminary was not officially registered and has since been sealed by the authorities.
