Another citizen has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court challenging the heavy fines being imposed through the e-challan system for traffic violations in Karachi.
The petition, filed by a citizen named Johar Abbas, argues that the fines are “extremely high and unfair.”
The application highlights a stark contrast in penalties within the country, stating that the fine for a traffic violation in Lahore is 200 rupees, while the same violation in Karachi costs 5,000 rupees, calling it an injustice to the citizens.
The petitioner has requested the court to immediately suspend the imposition of these fines. He also asks the court to direct the relevant authorities to satisfy the court regarding the fairness of these penalties.
The Chief Secretary of Sindh, IG of Sindh, DIG Traffic, Director General of Excise & Taxation, and Director General of NADRA have all been named as respondents in the petition.
