Los Angeles:
Superstar actor Eric Dane has made a determined vow to “fight until last breath” amid his ongoing battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), following a heartbreaking update about his diagnosis. The 52-year-old actor, whose recent appearance in a wheelchair shocked fans, declared he is not giving up and is looking forward to his future with his wife Rebecca Gayheart and their two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine.
“I wanna ring every bell,” Dane said in a moving interview posted on California congressman Eric Swalwell’s social media page.
The Grey’s Anatomy star emphasized his motivation, rooted in his family: “I have two daughters at home. I wanna see them graduate college, get married, maybe have grandkids. I wanna be there for all that. So, I’m gonna fight until the last breath on this one,” he confessed.
During the conversation, which also included doctors and representatives from the I Am ALS organization, a discussion was held about increasing federal funding for the neurological disease. Dane highlighted the barrier to treatment, noting that the long time it takes for people to be diagnosed “precludes them from being part of these clinical trials,” and praised the Act for ALS for broadening access.
Dane’s determined statement comes shortly after his wife, Gayheart, revealed to People that the family is struggling with the “heartbreaking” ALS diagnosis, with their teenage daughters coping with the situation by visiting a therapist. “My girls are really suffering, and we’re just trying to get through it. It’s a tough time,” Gayheart had said.
