The Government of Punjab has taken a significant policy decision by extending the ban on the use of wheat in poultry feed within all feed mills across the province for an additional 30 days. This measure is part of the government’s efforts to secure wheat reserves for human consumption and ensure an uninterrupted supply of flour to the public.
According to the spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the primary purpose of extending this ban under Section 144 is to guarantee the uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour, and bread in the market.
Details of the Directive
As per the directive issued by the Home Secretary, wheat will exclusively be used for flour production. The Home Department spokesperson revealed that feed mills in Punjab currently hold a combined stock of over 100,000 metric tons of wheat, the diversion of which into feed could jeopardize human food availability.
The notification specifies that this ban will remain in effect until December 1st. This move highlights the stringent measures being adopted by the provincial government to maintain food security and market stability.
