Mumbai, India: Fans of Bollywood star Anushka Sharma have reason to celebrate as the actress is reportedly set to make her return to the acting world after a gap of approximately seven years. However, her comeback will not be on the big screen, but via the online streaming giant Netflix.
According to foreign media reports, the sports biographical film ‘Chakda ‘Xpress’, starring Anushka Sharma, has gained renewed prominence following the Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s recent World Cup victory. The film is based on the life of former Indian women’s cricket captain Jhulan Goswami, who was a vital part of the team from 2002 to 2022.
Given the heightened relevance and patriotic fervor surrounding women’s cricket, it is now anticipated that Netflix will soon grant approval for the film’s release. The film’s shooting was completed back in 2022, but its release was put on hold due to reported disagreements between the production company and the streaming platform.
The recent success of the Indian women’s team has spurred producers back into action. Media reports suggest that the film’s producers have reached out to top executives at Netflix India, aiming to convince them to greenlight an immediate release. Anushka Sharma’s last appearance was in the 2018 film ‘Zero’ alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Her decision to return with a strong, empowering role in a sports context is expected to be met with immense excitement from audiences.
