Emma Stone, 36, has shaved her head for her new movie, Bugonia, joining a list of actresses like Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron who have also done so for a role. In a recent interview with Vogue, Stone revealed that the experience was emotional for her, as it brought back memories of her mother, Krista, who lost her hair while battling breast cancer.
“She actually did something brave. I’m just shaving my head,” Stone told the outlet, adding that her mother was “so jealous” and wanted to shave her head again. In the film, Stone plays a pharmaceutical CEO who shaves her head to prove she is an alien.
Despite feeling “amazing” during her first post-shave shower, Stone chose to wear a wig to the New York Film Festival. She joked that she was “bummed” she couldn’t go out “just straight-up bald,” as she thought it would have been “fun.”
Friend’s Reaction and Motherhood
Stone’s close friend, Jennifer Lawrence, confessed to Vogue that she initially did not want Stone to shave her head, referencing “the Billie Jean King haircut.” However, Lawrence added, “Honestly, she looked beautiful. She pulled it off.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Stone opened up about how motherhood has changed her life since welcoming her daughter, Louise Jean, in March 2021, with her husband Dave McCary. She described motherhood as a “clichéd thing to say, but it changes everything. And simplifies everything.” Stone gushed, “There’s nothing I feel luckier about. She’s the greatest gift of my life, for sure.”
