Preparedness and Precaution for the Vulnerable Population
PESHAWAR – An emergency advisory has been issued by the Health Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) due to the heightened threat of an Influenza (Flu) virus outbreak. The Health Department has warned that the risk of the virus spreading will persist in the province until April, posing potential challenges to public health.
This health advisory was prepared based on the recommendations of the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad and includes comprehensive guidelines for the prevention, control, and treatment of the flu.
Peak Season from November to April
The Health Department stated that flu cases are expected to increase from November to April, necessitating special caution for vulnerable segments of the population. Specifically, the elderly, children under 5, pregnant women, and patients with chronic diseases have been urged to take particular precautionary measures.
Directives to Hospitals and International Context
Given the potential severity of the situation, the Health Department has directed all hospitals across the province to take immediate action. The department clarified that this alert was issued following similar warnings in countries like Japan, Singapore, and Thailand due to rising flu cases.
The Health Department emphasized that the flu vaccine is the most effective protective measure available. Furthermore, consistent hand hygiene and the use of masks in public places can significantly reduce the virus’s spread.
