Oslo:
Elon Musk has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was made by Member of the European Parliament, Branko Grims, who submitted a request to the Nobel Committee.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla, was nominated for his continued support for freedom of expression. Grims mentioned in a social media post, “Mr. Elon Musk has been successfully nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 for his continued support for the fundamental human right of free speech.”
He added, “A heartfelt thank you to all co-nominators and everyone who assisted in this challenging endeavor!”
Musk’s Response:
Immediately after the nomination, Musk responded on his X (formerly Twitter) account, clearly stating, “I don’t want any award.”
Information Warfare and Free Speech:
In December, Grims publicly stated that Musk deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for his important role in promoting and protecting free speech.
Musk’s purchase of Twitter in 2022 and its subsequent rebranding as X was viewed by some as a revolutionary move to restore free speech on the platform.
Under Musk’s leadership, X lifted restrictions on several prominent conservative figures, reduced content moderation, and emphasized promoting free speech. However, his leadership has also faced criticism for allowing the spread of misinformation and harassment.
