The United States is observing the 84th anniversary of the devastating Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbor naval base, a pivotal moment that triggered the US entry into World War II. December 7 is annually marked as a solemn national day of remembrance across the country.
The surprise assault on the American naval base in Hawaii, which occurred on December 7, 1941, led to catastrophic damage to the US Pacific Fleet. The attack resulted in a tragic loss of life, with more than 2,400 US servicemen killed and 1,178 wounded. The material toll included the sinking of five warships and the destruction of 188 aircraft.
To commemorate the sacrifices made on that day, a memorial ceremony is being held at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii. The event is themed ‘Building Pathways to Peace,’ underscoring the shift from global conflict to persistent efforts towards harmony and remembrance.
