Former United States President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would be filing a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times. The announcement comes days after the newspaper published articles linking him to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. This follows a prior threat from Trump last week to sue the paper for its reporting on a sexually suggestive note and drawing given to Epstein.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “Today, I have the great honor of bringing a $15 billion dollar defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times.” The New York Times has not yet responded to the announcement.
Trump accused the newspaper of lying about him, his family, his businesses, as well as Republican movements and ideologies like the America First Movement and Make America Great Again (MAGA). He added that the lawsuit would be filed in Florida but did not provide any further details.
