Former first lady Bushra Bibi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have been booked in seven new criminal cases following recent violent protests across the country. The new cases, registered in Attock, come in the wake of protests that saw confrontations between demonstrators and police.
Legal Actions and Accusations
The FIRs (First Information Reports) were filed at several police stations, including Hasanabdal, Hazro, and Injra, and name key PTI figures including Bushra Bibi, Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub, and former president Arif Alvi. The charges include assaulting 119 police officers—three of whom are reported to be in critical condition—and stealing riot control equipment such as tear gas canisters, anti-riot kits, and mobile phones from police personnel along major motorways connecting Islamabad, Peshawar, and Dera Ismail Khan.
In addition, the Injra and Hasanabdal police have arrested 35 protesters, who were presented before courts to obtain their physical remand for further investigation.
Controversial Video Message
Meanwhile, in a separate legal action, Bushra Bibi was booked by the Gharaha Mor police station in Vehari District over a controversial video message she posted about Imran Khan’s visit to Saudi Arabia. The video, which went viral on social media, has sparked further legal and political debate.
The string of cases against PTI leaders follows an ongoing crackdown on the party’s members and supporters in the wake of violent protests, adding to the growing political tension in the country.
