DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa— In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, Pakistan Customs successfully intercepted a large consignment of illegal drugs in the Dera Ismail Khan (D.I. Khan) region. According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the operation resulted in the seizure of 15.2 kilograms of ‘Ice’ (Crystal Meth) from a passenger bus, with an estimated international market value of PKR 910 million.
This massive recovery deals a substantial blow to the drug smuggling networks attempting to transport destructive narcotics like Ice across the country.
However, the successful seizure was followed by a tense confrontation. FBR sources confirmed that while Customs personnel were transferring the seized drugs to the official warehouse, they were ambushed by armed assailants. These “miscreants” launched a direct attack on the Customs team, opening fire on the officials. This brazen attempt by elements associated with drug trafficking highlights the dangerous extent to which smugglers are willing to go to protect their illicit operations.
The FBR reported that due to the timely and professional response of the Customs team, both the personnel and the seized drugs were secured successfully. The bravery of the Customs staff underscores their commitment to upholding the rule of law amidst the serious security challenges facing Pakistan’s internal borders and enforcement agencies.
