Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the removed former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has released a fiery audio message to her supporters just ahead of a critical International Crimes Tribunal decision, highlighting the deep political turmoil gripping the nation.
In the message, the 78-year-old Awami League leader leveled severe accusations against the interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, claiming they actively seek to prevent the Awami League from participating in elections and are plotting to dismantle her party. She also accused Yunus of violating the constitution, stating that the forced removal of elected representatives constitutes a criminal act.
Hasina dismissed the charges against her as false and showed complete defiance toward the upcoming judicial ruling. She passionately asserted that the “Awami League originated from the grassroots; it did not emerge from the pocket of some power usurper.”
Praising her supporters for their swift reaction to her protest call, she stated that the people of Bangladesh would deliver justice and show the “corrupt and terrorist Yunus and his aides” the correct direction for the nation.
Defending herself against human rights violation charges, she highlighted her previous role in sheltering one million Rohingya refugees, pointing out the irony that she is now accused of human rights abuses. She assured her party workers that she is alive and will continue working for the welfare of the country. Sheikh Hasina is currently facing charges related to ordering a deadly crackdown on the 2024 student movement, which the UN claims resulted in 1,400 deaths.
