PARACHINAR/PESHAWAR: The death toll from the attack on a convoy of goods-laden trucks and security forces in Lower Kurram has risen to seven. The deceased include five security personnel, a truck driver, and a passerby, while two attackers were also killed.
Attack Details
The ambush took place in Mandori, Ochat, Charkhel, and Bagan, as the convoy was heading to Parachinar.
- Over 20 individuals, including five security personnel and five truck drivers, sustained injuries.
- Attackers looted 19 trucks and set them on fire, while a total of 35 trucks were looted.
- According to the Drugs Association leaders Syed Iftikhar Hussain and Syed Muhammad Hanif, goods worth Rs120 million were looted.
Government’s Response & Peace Agreement Violations
MNA Hamid Hussain condemned the government’s silence despite repeated violations of the peace agreement and urged immediate action. MPA Ali Hadi Irfani highlighted massive financial losses suffered by traders and shopkeepers and called for immediate relief.
Clearance Operation Announced
Following the attack, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to launch a clearance operation in four troubled areas of Lower Kurram— Ochat, Mandori, Dad Kamar, and Bagan.
- Residents will be evacuated for their safety.
- Strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for the attack.
- Names of individuals involved in anti-state activities will be placed in Schedule IV, with bounties announced for masterminds behind the unrest.
- Relief compensation funds distribution has been temporarily suspended.
- Illegal bunkers will be demolished at an expedited pace.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to strictly enforcing the peace agreement and making Kurram a weapon-free zone. Peace committees have also been instructed to play an active role in ensuring stability in the region.
