Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia released dash camera and body camera footage on Monday from a shooting involving a police officer that occurred last week.
The incident took place on Thursday in the 9600 block of Golf Lakes Trail. According to police, four individuals in a stolen truck rammed a police car while attempting to flee from officers who had surrounded them in a parking lot.
The situation began when a Flock license plate reader flagged the stolen truck. Covert officers confirmed its location, and marked units surrounded the vehicle. As officers closed in, the truck’s driver accelerated, crashing onto the hood of a police car.
The video shows the four occupants exiting the disabled truck and running away. During the ensuing foot chase, police said 17-year-old Eric Lampkin-Scarborough, who was armed with a modified handgun, was shot twice by an officer. Garcia reported that Lampkin-Scarborough received first aid from the police and is currently in stable condition.
Two individuals were taken into custody on Thursday, while a fourth person, also believed to be armed, escaped and remains at large. Police have not confirmed the identity of this individual.
Among those detained, 19-year-old Deantae Moore was found with outstanding capital murder warrants related to the killing of two 18-year-old men at a Dallas convenience store in March. The other person in custody was identified as 21-year-old Damon Price, who was hospitalized after complaining of chest pain.
In addition to Moore’s capital murder charges, the men face various charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, evading detention, aggravated assault on a public servant, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and drug-related offenses.
Four weapons were recovered: two that fell from the vehicle, a third near where Lampkin-Scarborough fled, and a fourth from the stolen truck. Two of these weapons were reported stolen.
Garcia noted that while the exact plans of the suspects remain unknown, the presence of stolen vehicles, stolen weapons, and masks suggests they might have intended to commit more serious crimes. The investigation continues, with the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of Community Police Oversight involved in the ongoing inquiries.
