Outside the American Airlines Center on Victory Plaza, the atmosphere was filled with sequins, balloons, and breakdancing on the blue carpet—a night for fans to indulge in pre-game festivities.
However, amidst the excitement, one particular sight captivated everyone: Dirk Nowitzki, the basketball legend immortalized with a statue outside the arena and a key player in the 2011 NBA Championship team, casually shooting hoops on the plaza.
“I’ve loved the Mavericks since I was about 12 or 13 because of Dirk,” said Christina Esparza, dressed for the occasion in a blue tutu skirt adorned with cutout faces of Mavs players.
“When they work together, they’re unstoppable,” Esparza added optimistically. “They can win this, and I still believe in Mavs in six.”
On this night of glamour and celebration, Dallas-based platinum-record recording artist Dorrough took center stage after being invited by the Mavs to perform at halftime.
“To see the team return to the championship is significant because I’ve been following them for 13 years since the last time,” said Dorrough, known for hits like “Ice Cream Paint Job.”
“Getting to these moments isn’t easy. It’s hard work, and I’m just here to contribute my energy to the Mavs, the organization, and the fans.”
