HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Traffic on I-10 was blocked for hours on Tuesday due to not one, but two giant spools obstructing the westbound lanes near Wayside. The spools, part of a lost load, started causing disruption just after noon, with only two lanes of traffic able to pass by.
The cause of the spools ending up on the freeway remains unknown. However, Houston TranStar reported that the incident was cleared by 5:41 p.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
This isn’t the first time Houston drivers have encountered industrial spools on the roads. In 2018, drivers had to dodge a rolling spool in the same area on I-10 and Wayside. Last August, two loose spools were removed from the Katy Freeway near the Houston Avenue bridge, and reported a similar incident at the same spot in February 2022.
