The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted permission for lawyer Salman Akram Raja to meet with the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in jail. The meeting is to discuss a pending petition that seeks to ban the PTI founder’s social media account, which allegedly shared “anti-state material.”
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir presided over the hearing. During the proceedings, the judge inquired about the whereabouts of the authorities who were summoned to appear.
Salman Akram Raja, the lawyer for the PTI founder, informed the court that he urgently needed to get instructions from his client regarding this specific case. He complained that despite a previous court order from March 24, a meeting was not permitted. “Today is Tuesday, which is the designated day for meeting the PTI founder,” he added.
Raja also mentioned that they had not yet received a copy of a new order from a larger bench concerning jail meetings. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir responded, “I have signed the order, you can take it.”
Expressing skepticism based on past experiences, Raja remarked, “We have taken copies of many orders before, but they were not implemented. Let’s see if this order is acted upon today or not.”
