Renowned Pakistani singer Ahmad Jehanzeb has broken his silence over the controversy surrounding the soundtrack of the hit drama Ishq Murshid, which recently earned him an international award. The artist stated that the OST was entirely his own composition, and its immense popularity led to this recognition.
Speaking at the ceremony, Jehanzeb said, “I’m very happy — this award took 25 years of hard work.” He explained that the song was not pre-planned but was written overnight at the request of director Farooq Rand, when no suitable poet was available for the pivotal meeting scene between the lead characters Bilal Abbass and Darfashan. The track, once released, instantly captured the hearts of listeners and broke multiple records.
Following its success, actress Javeria Saud claimed she had written several famous drama OSTs, including Ishq Murshid, but was denied credit. Jehanzeb dismissed the claim, saying, “I often consult close friends for feedback, but taking advice doesn’t mean giving away authorship.”
He added that while he worked tirelessly on the piece, the true credit belongs to the audience who embraced the song wholeheartedly. The incident, he noted, reflects the broader issue of transparency and acknowledgment in the entertainment industry — where behind every celebrated creation lies a battle for rightful credit.
