Two Chinese companies have announced partnerships with local firms to launch robotaxi services in Singapore as the city-state expands its autonomous driving capabilities. Ride-hailing operator Grab stated it will partner with China’s WeRide to begin services next year. Separately, Pony.ai and ComfortDelGro have teamed up for similar services and are awaiting regulatory approval.
Grab said in a statement that it has been selected by local authorities to operate two autonomous shuttle service routes in the Punggol area. It plans to begin taking passengers in five- and eight-seater vehicles from WeRide in early 2026, after an initial phase for the vehicles to study the routes.
In a separate statement, Pony.ai also announced its plan to introduce autonomous services on fixed routes in Punggol before expanding to other areas. It anticipates launching services in the coming months once it receives regulatory approval. Pony.ai currently operates commercial robotaxis in four of China’s major cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. The company is also exploring the deployment of its driverless service in other countries, including South Korea and the Middle East.
