Chappell Roan, the 26-year-old pop star known for hits like “Hot To Go,” has a clear rule when it comes to dating: no colleagues. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, Roan, born Kayleigh Amstutz, discussed how her fast-paced career has affected her romantic life and why she avoids dating within the music industry.
“I met this girl that I really like, but [I] can’t commit because I feel like no one understands me,” Roan confessed. “I don’t want to date another artist because they’re f—ing nuts.”
Roan has been hesitant with her new love interest, who is outside the music industry, despite appreciating the person’s patience. “She’s so awesome and so secure in herself and [has told me] ‘No pressure, we can just be friends if you want,’” Roan shared. Still, she joked about her chaotic state of mind, saying, “I’m just running around like a chicken with my head cut off… I can’t get married!”
The “Good Luck, Babe” singer also opened up about her journey of self-acceptance, admitting that she still feels “so uncomfortable being gay sometimes.”
