The Central Asia Volleyball Association (CAVA) has relocated its Men’s Nations League to Uzbekistan after several countries expressed reluctance to travel to Pakistan due to prevailing tensions between Pakistan and India, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The tournament was initially scheduled to take place in Islamabad from May 29 to June 4. However, following concerns raised by multiple participating teams, CAVA decided to shift the event while keeping the original dates unchanged.
The decision was finalized during CAVA’s Annual General Meeting held on April 25 in Nepal. Member nations cited the strained relations between Pakistan and India as the primary reason for their hesitation to travel to Pakistan.
“The tournament will be shifted to Uzbekistan, but the dates will remain the same,” stated a CAVA official.
Ch Mohammad Yaqub, a senior official of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation, corroborated this development.
“Yes, the change was made because countries declined to participate citing the security situation between Pakistan and India,” he explained.
The upcoming event will now feature national teams from Pakistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and India.
