Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the observance of ‘Youm-e-Tashakkur’ (Day of Gratitude) to commemorate the nation’s decisive response to Indian aggression and the success of ‘Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos’.
The day will be marked to express gratitude to Allah Almighty, honour the extraordinary bravery of the armed forces, and acknowledge the unified stance of the entire nation.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the Prime Minister stated that ‘Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos’ delivered a strong and fitting response to the enemy’s aggression, proving the country’s superiority on all fronts.
He emphasized that despite India’s acts of aggression, Pakistan maintained its defense with unwavering resolve and demonstrated full preparedness to handle the situation.
The Prime Minister urged the nation and religious scholars (Ulema) to offer collective prayers and Nawafil across the country as an expression of gratitude to Allah Almighty.
He called for special prayers to be held for the blessings of martyrs and Ghazis, stressing that the sacrifices of the Pakistani armed forces will never be forgotten. The nation stands in solidarity with them, he added.
This development follows the declaration by US President Donald Trump that Pakistan and India had agreed to a ceasefire after Pakistan’s military response to Indian aggression.
Recently, the long-standing rivals engaged in intense firing for four days, the most severe in nearly three decades, involving missile and drone strikes on each other’s military installations, resulting in dozens of casualties.
A ceasefire agreement was achieved through diplomatic efforts and pressure from the United States and several other countries.
In a statement, Trump affirmed that Pakistan and India had agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following four days of strikes and counter-strikes against each other’s military installations.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed that both countries had agreed to a ceasefire “with immediate effect,” and India’s foreign ministry stated that it would commence at 5 pm Indian time (4:30 pm PST).
