The Fragility of Peace and Ongoing Aggression
GAZA – The Gaza Strip has once again been stained by bloodshed following an Israeli drone strike in the southern city of Khan Younis, which resulted in the death of two Palestinian civilians, including a child. This tragic incident occurs despite a fragile ceasefire agreement that was put into effect just last month.
According to Arab media, Israeli military operations in Gaza have persisted relentlessly since the ceasefire was announced. The Palestinian organization Hamas accused Israel of continuous violations, stating that since October 10, daily attacks have claimed the lives of 271 Palestinian civilians and left over 600 injured.
Hamas claimed that the areas targeted by the Israeli forces are predominantly residential buildings, affecting the civilian population. They alleged that Israel is deliberately seeking out and targeting two-story buildings, escalating the human cost of the conflict.
Aid Restrictions and Breach of Agreement
Beyond the military strikes, Israel has also maintained strict restrictions on the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to Gaza, which constitutes a separate breach of the ceasefire terms.
The agreement stipulated that 600 aid trucks, including 50 trucks of fuel, should be allowed into Gaza daily. However, the latest reports indicate that on Sunday, only 270 trucks managed to enter the besieged territory.
Adding to the complexity of the security situation, a senior Emirati official recently announced that the United Arab Emirates does not intend to join the Gaza Stabilization Force, further highlighting the multi-layered challenges facing international efforts in the region.
