A devastating fire has erupted at a factory located in the Karachi Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Landhi, resulting in injuries to at least seven people. According to officials, the intense blaze caused the factory building to collapse, and rescue operations are currently in progress.
The fire, which originated in a garment factory, has been burning for over four hours despite the continuous efforts of the fire brigade. Additional fire tenders were called to the scene to assist in extinguishing the flames.
To combat the inferno, 12 fire tenders and two snorkels have been deployed. Officials confirmed that all workers in the affected factory’s basement were successfully evacuated. As a precautionary measure to prevent further incidents, adjacent buildings were also evacuated.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken serious notice of the situation, directing fire brigade and rescue teams to take immediate action to control the fire. He emphasized that the “protection of human life must be the top priority.” The Chief Minister has also ordered the Karachi Commissioner to launch a full inquiry into the incident, adding that the factory owners and workers should be provided with complete support. He noted that a large number of workers were inside the factory when the fire broke out.
