A Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer, Sandeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sunny Toronto, has filed a high-profile lawsuit against the Indian government alleging defamation and damage to his reputation. The Canadian-born officer contends that India unjustly branded him a ‘Khalistani terrorist’ without any credible evidence, resulting in the ruination of his personal and professional life.
According to media reports, Sandeep Singh Sidhu firmly stated that he was born in British Columbia and has no association with Indian politics or any religious organizations. He claims he was targeted solely based on his Sikh name and his position within the Canadian security forces.
Sidhu strongly refuted allegations made in Indian media linking him to the banned International Sikh Youth Federation. He asserts that these baseless accusations forced him into hiding and is now demanding $9 million in damages from the Indian government. Significantly, the Canadian Border Services Agency’s own investigation found no evidence supporting the claims, leading to his reinstatement to his job. This lawsuit brings to light the sensitive issue of political and security allegations crossing international borders.
