Britney Spears recently opened up about Sabrina Carpenter’s VMAs performance, describing it as “weird” and expressing her confusion over the choice to kiss an alien during the show.
Carpenter captivated the audience with a performance featuring her top hits, including “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Espresso.” The highlight of her set was a dramatic moment where she kissed an alien before singing “Espresso,” and paid tribute to Spears’ iconic hit “Oops!…I Did It Again.”
In a candid Instagram video, Spears shared her mixed feelings about the performance. “Did you guys watch the VMAs? I didn’t watch the VMAs, but I did see stuff on my phone from YouTube of Sabrina Carpenter,” she said.
Spears questioned the creative choice, “Why is she kissing an alien on stage? I adore her. I love her to death. I didn’t understand that part. Why didn’t she kiss a girl? Like, that was weird.”
Despite her reservations, Spears expressed appreciation for Carpenter’s shout-out on the red carpet, saying, “This Sabrina girl, she said my name on the red carpet and I thought that was kinda cool, because I forget I’m famous sometimes because I’m a mom, I’m kind of old, blah blah blah. But I thought it was kind of cool, this Sabrina girl, Carpenter. She said something, I was like ‘Thanks, that’s cool!’ She made me cool.”
Carpenter’s performance featured tracks from her sixth studio album, *Short n’ Sweet*, released last month.
