The British Council has announced the cancellation of all GCE, IGCSE, IELTS, and University of London examinations scheduled for Thursday’s afternoon (PM) session across all venues in Lahore due to the prevailing tensions.
According to a statement issued by the Council, this decision has been made in coordination with the relevant examination boards to prioritize the safety and security of all candidates.
“This decision has been made to prioritise the safety & security of candidates,” the Council stated, urging students and parents to rely solely on official British Council platforms for the most current updates.
Candidates have been advised to maintain contact with their respective schools for further guidance. Private candidates have been requested to reach out to the British Council’s Customer Services centre for assistance.
The statement did not specify whether the affected exams would be rescheduled but emphasized that all future announcements would be communicated through official channels.
This development follows India’s unprovoked strikes in Pakistan in the early hours of Wednesday, occurring two weeks after India accused its neighbour of involvement in an attack in occupied Kashmir that resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
Islamabad has denied these accusations and vowed to retaliate against the missile strikes, also claiming to have shot down five Indian aircraft and 25 drones, as well as damaging multiple checkposts.
As tensions persist, authorities across the country remain on high alert, and flight operations are also being intermittently suspended.
