In a troubling development that shakes public faith in law enforcement, two police personnel have been apprehended in Lahore for their involvement in a gang responsible for serious house burglaries in the Chuhang area. This arrest delivers a severe blow to the public confidence placed in the very force entrusted with maintaining peace and order.
SP Sadar, Rana Husain Tahir, confirmed to the media that Chuhang Police successfully arrested three members of the gang that systematically targeted homes. Those arrested include serving police constable Ali Haider, a dismissed officer Rahat Ali, and one other accomplice. Police have recovered stolen jewellery, cash, and weapons from their possession.
The Threat to Citizens’ Dignity: Unmasking a ‘Honeytrap’ Gang
In a separate but equally disturbing incident, the Nawab Town Police simultaneously arrested three individuals—identified as Raza, Khurram, and Sulaiman—who were operating a dangerous ‘honeytrap’ ring to defraud and exploit citizens.
According to the SP, these criminals would lure unsuspecting citizens by offering the false promise of heavy discounts on online purchases. Once the victims arrived at the designated location, they were subjected to severe assault, filmed in compromising videos (for blackmail), and subsequently robbed of their cash and valuables.
The revelation of serving police officers engaged in crime, coupled with the exposure of the heinous ‘honeytrap’ methods, underscores the critical need for rigorous internal accountability and strict monitoring within the law enforcement agencies.
