In a significant meeting in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and a delegation from Meta (parent company of Facebook) agreed to expand digital cooperation. The discussion focused on leveraging technology to foster innovation, ensure a safe online environment, and promote economic empowerment in Pakistan.
The Commerce Minister highlighted that Pakistan has one of South Asia’s fastest-growing digital economies, producing over 75,000 IT graduates annually. He shared impressive figures, noting that Pakistan’s IT exports grew by 18% this year to reach $3.8 billion, with a 21% increase recorded in the first quarter of the current fiscal year alone.
Jam Kamal Khan informed the delegation that the “National E-commerce Policy 2.0” is being finalized, which targets a $20 billion market by 2030. He invited Meta to partner with the government on AI ethics, digital safety, and AI skilling programs for youth under the “National AI Policy 2025.”
Meta’s representative, Rafael Frankel, commended Pakistan’s digital progress and assured increased collaboration. He affirmed that Meta would continue its role in providing digital training programs for Pakistani entrepreneurs and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
