HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An 18-year-old mother’s bond was increased to $200,000 on Monday after she was charged with child abandonment for allegedly dumping a newborn in a dumpster, according to court records.
Previously, the bond for Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam had been set at $90,000 on Friday.
The incident occurred on July 21 when first responders rescued a baby, named Gabriel, from a dumpster behind an apartment complex on Dashwood Drive in southwest Houston. The baby was found inside a trash bag and was placed in blankets by EMS.
According to police, Cux-Ajtzalam gave birth inside a taco truck and allegedly disposed of the baby shortly afterward, then returned to clean the truck.
The newborn is now in the care of Child Protective Services and is reported to be in good health.
