In the Wana area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) South Waziristan district, a powerful explosion near the office of a peace committee resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals and left several others wounded.
According to Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan, the blast occurred in close proximity to the peace committee’s office, leading to the immediate deaths of seven people and injuries to sixteen others.
He further stated that the injured individuals were being promptly transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana.
Meanwhile, police officials reported that the explosion caused the complete destruction of the peace committee’s office building. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The nation experienced a significant surge in terror attacks in January 2025, marking a 42% increase compared to the preceding month, as indicated by data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a research organization.
The data revealed that at least 74 militant attacks were recorded across the country, resulting in 91 fatalities, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. An additional 117 individuals sustained injuries, comprising 53 security forces personnel, 54 civilians, and 10 militants.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) emerged as the most severely affected province, followed by Balochistan. Within KP’s settled districts, militants carried out 27 attacks, leading to 19 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and two militants.
The tribal districts of KP (formerly known as FATA) witnessed 19 attacks, resulting in 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
Balochistan also experienced a rise in militant activity, with at least 24 attacks reported, which claimed 26 lives, including 11 security personnel, six civilians, and nine militants.
