Bindi Irwin is on the path to “healing” following a significant health crisis.
On Sunday, May 25, the renowned conservationist and television personality shared an emotional health update on her Instagram account, two weeks after undergoing emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix and recurrent endometriosis.
“Healing,” the TV personality began her post, “Thank you for your incredible words of support and kindness. The reason I share my health journey is because more girls and women desperately need answers to their undiagnosed pain. I’ve battled with endometriosis for more than 12 years. This disease is crippling and can make you feel incredibly isolated.”
The author of You Are a Wildlife Warrior also included candid photographs in her post. These images showed her standing in the rain with an umbrella, posing by a fence under a tree, a selfie of herself wearing red sunglasses, and a throwback picture from the hospital that appeared to be from her recent surgery.
Taking a firm stance to “raise awareness and change the narrative for women’s health,” Irwin directly addressed women experiencing endometriosis, stating, “I see you, your pain is real, and you deserve answers and genuine health care.”
This update followed Irwin’s absence from an annual gala celebrating her late father, Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin, an absence necessitated by her sudden health emergency.
For those unfamiliar, “Endometriosis is a condition in which cells similar to the lining of the uterus, or endometrium, grow outside the uterus,” as per the Mayo Clinic. This condition can lead to severe pain, irregular menstrual cycles, and in extreme cases, infertility.
