On Friday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari expressed serious concerns, stating that the federation is at risk due to the ongoing canal projects.
Addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad, the former Foreign Minister highlighted his party’s victory in the Umerkot by-election, emphasizing, “The people have clearly rejected these canal projects by ensuring the PPP’s win.”
“We brought a no-confidence motion, a first in the country’s history, and ousted the person who initiated the construction of these two canals. It’s worth remembering that PTI founder Imran Khan approved the construction of two out of the six canals,” Bhutto-Zardari pointed out.
He added, “When the PTI founder gave the green light for these canals, the PPP and its workers stood up and took action. We protested against them then, and we’re protesting now.”
Bhutto-Zardari claimed, “Regarding the Umerkot by-elections, both the PTI and PML-N were on the same page. They worked together to try and defeat the PPP in Umerkot.”
“The people of Umerkot delivered a resounding defeat to them. They’re left with no place to hide after that loss,” he stated.
Bhutto-Zardari continued, “The people of Sindh stand firmly with those who raised the slogan ‘Pakistan Khappay.’ The PPP has always fought tirelessly to secure the rights of the people.”
“Hyderabad has shown its unwavering support for the PPP and the late Benazir Bhutto,” he declared.
He also issued a strong warning, threatening to withdraw support from the government if the canal projects are not halted.
“They’re sitting in Islamabad because of us,” Bhutto-Zardari criticized the federal government.
“We’ve played a crucial role in Shehbaz Sharif becoming Prime Minister twice,” he reminded.
He concluded, “We’re not seeking power for the sake of it; we simply want respect and the rights of the people.”
