Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has been invited in a personal capacity to attend US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on January 20, according to sources. Bilawal is expected to leave for Washington in the coming days to participate in the event.
President-elect Trump has also extended invitations to Chinese President Xi Jinping and other global leaders to attend his inauguration in Washington.
It is noteworthy that PPP Co-chairman and current President Asif Ali Zardari had attended the pre-inauguration ceremony of then-President-elect Trump in Washington, DC, back in 2017. He was accompanied by PPP leaders Rehman Malik (late) and Sherry Rehman.
Following his sweeping victory in the November 2024 presidential election, Trump will take the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025.
Trump described his win as an “unprecedented and powerful mandate” during his victory speech in Florida, thanking the American people for their support.
The inauguration ceremony, organized by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, will take place at the US Capitol. It begins with a procession, followed by the vice president’s oath-taking and then the president’s oath.
The president’s inaugural address, which highlights their vision and goals for the term, follows the swearing-in. Afterward, the outgoing president departs the Capitol, and the new president signs their first official actions.
The ceremony concludes with the pass-in review, where the president and vice president review military troops before leading a procession to the White House.
While Trump did not attend President Biden’s inauguration in 2021, Biden is expected to be present for Trump’s swearing-in.
