“I will definitely attend the breakfast, a tradition since my mother’s tenure,” says PPP Chairman
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari confirmed that he will attend a breakfast invitation extended by US President Donald Trump in a personal capacity.
Bilawal made the statement in response to a query about whether he had been invited to an event hosted by the new US administration. He clarified that he would participate in the annual National Prayer Breakfast.
“As far as my US visit is concerned, this news is true and was reported by the media, but you should ask the media about its details.
“I will definitely attend the breakfast, a tradition that has continued since my mother’s time. There’s also a possibility of meeting friends of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto there.
“I am neither a minister nor a government official, so this trip is neither official nor as a representative of the government,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that PPP Co-chairman and current President Asif Ali Zardari attended the pre-inauguration ceremony of then-US President-elect Trump in 2017.
In response to a question, Bilawal said his party would not become part of the cabinet. To another question, he expressed confidence that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would “Insha’Allah” complete his five-year term.
When asked why the new US administration invited India’s foreign minister but not Pakistan’s for Trump’s inauguration ceremony, Bilawal, also a former foreign minister, explained that it was necessary to invite a representative from India after extending an invitation to the Chinese president, given the geopolitical dynamics between the US and China.
“Pakistan’s foreign policy remains stable. Pakistan’s nuclear assets and missile technology are gifts from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” he stated.
