The health condition of Begum Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Prime Minister, has taken a turn for the worse. She is currently in a critical condition and being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital. According to the medical board overseeing her treatment, her condition is extremely precarious. Dr. Zia Haq, a member of the medical board, stated that Begum Khaleda Zia’s health is extremely worrying. She has been placed on life support and is receiving regular dialysis. Whenever the dialysis is stopped, her health condition deteriorates significantly.
Due to her advanced age and multiple ailments, it has become increasingly difficult to administer comprehensive treatment. Begum Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various health issues, including gout, diabetes, kidney, liver, lung, and eye problems, for several years. In recent days, she experienced difficulty breathing, coughing, fever, and severe weakness while at home. As a result, she was admitted to the hospital on November 23. However, her condition worsened, and she was transferred to the ICU on November 27 after a series of medical tests revealed a rapid decline in her lung, heart, and kidney functions.
A 30-member medical board, comprising local and foreign experts, has been formed to oversee her treatment. The board meets daily and makes necessary adjustments to her treatment plan. Begum Khaleda Zia’s personal doctor, Professor A.Z.M. Zahid Hussain, stated that the decision to place her on life support was made after consulting the medical board. He added that her condition is fluctuating between improvement and deterioration.
The medical team is closely monitoring her condition and conducting daily tests to assess her health. Despite the challenges, the medical staff is making every effort to stabilize her condition. However, the situation remains precarious, and her survival is uncertain.
