Musa Khel, Balochistan – A shocking incident challenging the rule of law has emerged from the Musa Khel district in Balochistan, where a local ‘Jirga’ (tribal council) subjected eight individuals suspected of shoplifting to a medieval-style ‘trial by fire.’ This deeply disturbing event underscores the continuing, and often brutal, influence of parallel traditional justice systems in parts of Pakistan.
In a bizarre turn of events, local reports indicate that despite being forced to walk across blazing hot coals, none of the eight suspects sustained serious injuries. Nevertheless, the practice itself represents a grave violation of human rights and a direct affront to the formal legal system of the country.
The District Administration responded swiftly to the clear breach of law. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Musa Khel confirmed to ‘Geo News’ that the authorities have formally nominated seven individuals involved in organizing the illegal Jirga and the subsequent trial. Officials have arrested one member of the Jirga, and the DC stated that raids are actively being conducted to apprehend the remaining participants. The administration has vowed to take the strongest possible action against those who participated in this inhumane act, reinforcing the state’s resolve to uphold the law against arbitrary tribal verdicts.
