Following the rare derecho that struck Houston, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) is making progress in reopening campuses affected by the devastation. On Wednesday, only 23 campuses will remain closed, a significant improvement from the nearly 40 schools shut down on Tuesday. CenterPoint Energy is actively working to restore power for thousands of Houston residents who have been without electricity since Thursday’s severe storm. As of 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, approximately 72,142 customers remained without power for the fifth consecutive day, according to the CenterPoint Energy Outage Tracker.
