HOUSTON, Texas — When Betty White, one of the most beloved, unifying, and charming public figures in America, passed away on Dec. 31, 2021, Americans scrambled for ways to honor the Golden Girl. Some have thrown parties and offered TikTok and Instagram tributes, but a lasting homage is to donate to her favorite cause: animal welfare. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up some Houston animal charities locals can consider donating to in honor of the #Betty White Challenge, Jan. 17, which would’ve been her 100th birthday. (Of note, the Humane Society of Houston even has a pup named Betty…

The US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan said Eric Lira, 41, distributed drugs, including human growth hormone, “for the purpose of corrupting” the Tokyo games. Lira obtained misbranded versions of prescription drugs used to boost production of red blood cells from Central and South America and distributed them to two athletes, prosecutors said. One of the athletes believed to be discussed in the…
HOBART: England had already lost the series but at least rediscovered their stomach for a fight in Sydney and the battered tourists will look to produce a similar gutsy display in the final Ashes Test against Australia on Friday. Australia retained the urn with comprehensive victories in Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne and while England managed to halt the juggernaut in Sydney, it was not without a price. Wicket-keeper Jos Buttler’s tour was cut short by a finger injury, while all-rounder Ben Stokes (side) and middle order batsman Jonny Bairstow (finger) are doubtful for the pink-ball Test in Hobart after getting…
