Angelina Jolie is enjoying every moment of her time with The Weekend. The man who took four people hostage at a Colleyville synagogue last weekend reportedly searched the Internet for gun and pawn shops and influential rabbis before the siege, which ended when an FBI team stormed the building and killed him. Law-enforcement officials who spoke anonymously to The Washington Post said Malik Faisal Akram left a trail of digital evidence that was indicative of his plans and state of mind leading up to the Jan. 15 attack. For about two weeks before Akram, 44, took hostages at Congregation Beth Israel, he searched for gun and pawn shops in the Dallas area, The Post reported.…
After a cold start to the weekend, temperatures began to moderate a bit by Saturday afternoon, and that warming trend will continue Sunday, when temperatures climb back into the 60s. Overall, it will be a nice weekend with sunshine and light winds. The clouds are expected to roll in Monday along with a chance of showers. The rain looks very promising for areas south of Interstate 20, where up to a quarter inch of rain is likely. But farther north, any rain will be very limited. After that one day of welcome rain, the rest of next week looks dry.…
A sea of gold flooded the heart of Dallas on Saturday as hundreds of people gathered for a parade to ring in the city’s first South Oak Cliff Day. The event honored South Oak Cliff High School’s Golden Bears football team, whose 23-14 win over Liberty Hill last month in the UIL Class 5A Division II title game was the school’s first state championship — and the first football title in 63 years for a Dallas ISD school. Led by a procession of Corvettes, more than 20 schools with bands, drill teams and cheerleaders marched through the streets of downtown…
NEW YORK — Three studies released Friday offered more evidence that COVID-19 vaccines are standing up to the omicron variant, at least among people who received booster shots. They are the first large U.S. studies to look at vaccine protection against omicron, health officials said. The papers echo previous research — including studies in Germany, South Africa and the United Kingdom — indicating available vaccines are less effective against omicron than earlier versions of the coronavirus, but also that boosters doses rev up virus-fighting antibodies to increase the chance of avoiding symptomatic infection. The first study looked at hospitalizations and emergency…
