Fort Worth ISD will extend its school day next year to provide additional instruction time for students. The new calendar will add 15 minutes a day for all grades, either in the morning, afternoon or both, depending on the grade. In total, the district is adding 30 instructional hours, or roughly four school days, to the school year. A man who officials say sold the gun to the Colleyville synagogue hostage-taker earlier this month is facing a federal firearm charge, authorities announced Wednesday. Lavinia Masters was only 13 when someone broke into her family’s West Dallas home and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint in 1985. Masters went to a hospital for an examination and rape kit, but because of backlogs and inadequate funding in Dallas County her kit sat on a shelf, untested, for more than 20 years as the case’s statute of limitations passed. Dallas police will receive close to $1.4 million to purchase a new system that will analyze officers’ use of force over the next four years and evaluate whether each incident was justifiable. The Police Force Analysis Program also will provide a comprehensive look into how the department uses force compared with dozens of other law-enforcement agencies across the country.
