Two former Dallas County Sheriff’s officers have surrendered their state peace officer licenses after admitting to stealing more than $2,500 worth of appliances from a tornado-stricken Home Depot in 2019. Joseph Bobadilla, 27, and Rebecca Evans, 43, each pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of theft by a public servant, a third-degree felony. They both received deferred adjudication probation, meaning they will avoid convictions if they successfully complete the terms of their probations. A temporary homeless shelter opened at Dallas’ Fair Park on Wednesday ahead of the winter storm as advocates and volunteers spent the day trying to convince people to get out of the cold and stay there before it’s too late. The body of a Glenn Heights man who had been missing for months was found in a DeSoto creek Tuesday, police said. Bryan Piper, 33, had disappeared from his home in November, his family told police. His body was found near the 700 block of East Pleasant Run Road, DeSoto police said. The Dallas County medical examiner has yet to determine Piper’s cause of death. Police said they believe Piper had been in DeSoto at least some of the time after his disappearance.
